Conwy Youth Council is a group of young people (aged 11 to 21ish) who aim to provide all of the young people who live in Conwy county with an opportunity to have a say on things which affect you. This is a great chance to meet other young people from Conwy and have a real influence on the way things are run in the county.
How do I get involved in Conwy Youth Council?
There are two representatives from every secondary school in Conwy and four representatives from Coleg Llandrillo. Members are democratically elected (voted on) within your school or college. We’re not necessarily looking for school council members to be representatives as they already have a lot of responsibilities.
What is expected of Youth Council Members?
11-21ish years old and living in Conwy county
Willing and able to come to a meeting once a month (evening) and occasional full day training days (weekend). First training weekend 1 – 2 October 2010.
Willing and able to represent the other young people in your school/college (through your school council/course reps)
Get involved as a group with projects to improve things for young people in Conwy (working with Conwy Children and Young People’s Partnership)
Stay on the Youth Council for up to two years (minimum commitment of one year)
Youth Council meetings mostly take place outside of school/ college time and usually take place about once a month.
For more information please ask your current school members, school council co-ordinator or contact Joy Chiplin on 01492 574119, by e-mail or by using our Contact Form.

News
August was an exciting and productive month with the Youth Council working with design company Youth Friendly (www.youthfriendly.co.uk) to create a leaflet and poster. They’re fresh off the printing press so keep an eye out for them…!
We’ve also been working on a questionnaire on bullying in Conwy. Before we can know how to improve the situation, we need to know what it’s like out there. Where, why, and how does bullying happen? What’s being done about it already – what works, what doesn’t?
During September we worked on creating a set of questions to find out what you know about your rights, and what is the best way for you to find out about your rights.
We had an opportunity to get some young people’s opinions on both of the above issues in our workshop at the School Councils’ Conference (October) but we want to get as many of your views and opinions as possible so please check out our website www.youngconwy.com/youthcouncil where you can tell us what you think.
To launch our website we are running a competition, so that when you put a comment on our blog you will be given an opportunity to enter a free prize draw for an 8GB nano ipod!
If you’re interested in any of these things or would like to ask us to look at a particular issue, please get in touch!
Next Meeting!
Next meeting – next Monday 6.30pm at the Council Chambers, Bodlondeb, Conwy.
